MTV is afraid of My Chemical Romance

May 31, 2007

I was watching the internet version of the new MCR video “Teenagers” release, and then i watched the one on television.  In both, they blocked out many words that are not in any case an expletive. Here’s the lyrics and I’ll put double parenthesis around the blanked out words:

They’re gonna clean up your looks
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a ((gun))
And keep an eye on you, son
So they can watch all the things you do

Because the drugs never work
They’re gonna give you a smirk
‘Cause they got methods of keeping you clean
They’re gonna rip up your heads,
Your aspirations to shreds
Another cog in the ((murder)) machine

They said all teenagers scare the living ((shit)) out of me
They could care less as long as someone’ll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they’ll leave you alone, but not me

The boys and girls in the clique
The awful names that they stick
You’re never gonna fit in much, kid
But if you’re troubled and hurt
What you got under ((your shirt))
Will make them ((pay)) for the things that they did

They said all teenagers scare the living ((shit)) out of me
They could care less as long as someone’ll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they’ll leave you alone, but not me

Ohhh yeah!

They said all teenagers scare the living ((shit)) out of me
They could care less as long as someone’ll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they’ll leave you alone, but not me

All together now!

Teenagers scare the living ((shit)) out of me
They could care less as long as someone’ll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they’ll leave you alone, but not me

Now, you can forgive them for blocking out the word “shit,” but the rest is unforgivable. I’m pretty sure you can say gun, pay, and your shirt in any other circumstance.

“Honey, did you remember to *** the bills last month?”

“I got a pellet *** for Christmas.”

“That’s a really cool design on **** ****, how much did you *** for it?”

The release date for this single was pushed back due to the Virginia Tech massacre, which I can understand, but censoring words that are not standard expletives is ((bullshit)).

NCAA Grants Extra Year To Duke Players

May 30, 2007

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff has granted a season-of-competition waiver to 33 student-athletes who participated on the Duke University men’s lacrosse team during the 2006 season. The waiver was requested by Duke University for all men’s lacrosse student-athletes who were not seniors during the 2006 season.

The waiver provides each of the student-athletes a fifth year of eligibility to play lacrosse, regardless if the participation is for Duke or another NCAA institution. Duke University applied for the additional season of competition after canceling the 2006 season amid criminal allegations against some members of the team.

“These individuals were involved in an unusual circumstance that we believe warrants providing them the opportunity to complete their four years of competition,” said Jennifer Strawley, NCAA director of student-athlete reinstatement and membership services.

The student-athlete reinstatement staff considered a number of factors in determining that a waiver of NCAA regulations was appropriate. These factors included the unusual and extenuating circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the season; the hardship endured by the team from the false allegations; and the unanimous endorsement by the Atlantic Coast Conference university presidents for the waiver.

Millard West Edges by Creighton Prep 6-5

May 15, 2007

OMAHA, Neb. — Senior attackman Matt Ketcham scored two goals to lead Millard West to a 6-5 victory over Creighton Prep in an Omaha Metro Area Lacrosse League game Sunday afternoon.

Senior middies Dan Clauson and Andrew Reeves both added a goal and an assist to help lead the Wildcats (5-1) to their fifth straight victory.

In a game between the two fiercest rivals in Nebraska lacrosse, both teams came out hard from the beginning. Clauson pulled his short stick defender behind the net, beat him on a quick dodge and found a wide open Ketcham on the crease for West’s first goal.

Later in the first quarter, Ketcham beat his defender and buried his shot from eight yards to score the Wildcats’ second. Millard West continued to move the ball around and led 5-3 at the end of the third quarter.

But Creighton Prep came back in the fourth and brought the score within one with less than a minute to go on a laser from senior attackman Cameron Killen. However, the Junior Jays’ comeback attempt was cut short when the Wildcats won the ensuing face-off and ran out the last minute of the game on their offensive half of the field.

“This is a big-time rivalry for both of us,” Ketcham said. “They brought it hard, but we brought it harder and they just couldn’t keep up.”

In a losing effort, Killen scored twice, and senior middies Ryan McGowan and Mike Doran both scored once and dished an assist. McGowan and Doran kept the Junior Jays alive with strong transition play all day. Despite their efforts, Creighton Prep fell to 4-3.

“We’re probably the two most evenly-matched teams in Nebraska,” McGowan said. “It’ll be a good game when we play them again.”

Millard West routes Millard South 13-2

May 4, 2007

By Robert Molinelli
WSL Nebraska Correspondent
OMAHA, Neb. — Senior attackman Matt Ketcham scored a game-high six goals to lead Millard West to a 13-2 victory over Millard South in an Omaha Area Metro Lacrosse League game Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore attackman Alex Meyer scored four goals, senior middie Dan Clauson dished two assists and junior goalie Cameron Patrick saved nine shots to help lead the Wildcats (3-1).
The Wildcats took control early and never let up. Millard West led 3-0 after the first quarter, 6-0 at halftime, and 9-1 going into the fourth quarter. Time of possession was split evenly between both sides, but Ketcham and Millard West were hitting on all cylinders. Ketcham and Meyer were a force, scoring from long range and on well-timed cuts around the crease.
“We came out strong and never let up,” Ketcham said. “And that’s how we plan to finish out the rest of the season.”
In a losing effort, sophomore goalie Mason Winkler saved 12 shots, including several from point-blank range, for Millard South (2-3).
“We were missing some guys today, so I think that made a big difference,” Winkler said. “It was just a tough day for us.”
